Firefighters from Nelson were called out after a bedroom fire yesterday.
Crews attended the scene, in Napier Street, at around 1.30pm and took an hour to get the blaze under control.
The contents of the room were destroyed and it was left badly damaged by smoke.
A Nelson fire station spokesman said: “It was an accidental fire but we are not sure of the source at this stage.
He said although the blaze was confined to the bedroom when firemen arrived they found there were plumes of black smoke coming out of the window.”
