BLOOD will line the walls of an art gallery in Rossendale as part of a new exhibition.
Notorious musician Pete Doherty’s ‘blood art’ will be displayed at the popular See Gallery this weekend.
The ‘See’ art space, in Crawshawbooth is rapidly establishing a reputation for exhibiting the works of well-known contemporary artists.
Julian Williams, gallery owner, said: “It’s an exciting time for us at the moment, we’re dealing with some very well-known names.
“Pete’s art is subjective, and I think people will appreciate it on a different level to his song-writing skills.”
The piece of artwork, named Martel, is expected to attract a lot of interest when it goes on display tomorrow.
Pete, the lead singer of Babyshambles, has become a tabloid regular due to his reported drug taking and former relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.
Legendary pop artist Ray Lowry, who died in September, is one of the big names the gallery owners have worked with in recent times.
Julian said: “Since displaying Ray Lowry’s work things have really gone to the next level.
“We got hold of the Pete Doherty art from a German taxidermist named Earl at a secret location in London. The pictures really look the business here.”
The blood splattered canvases caused great controversy when they were released in 2006 but local councillors are pleased that cutting edge art is coming into Rossendale.
Coun Alyson Barnes said: “We need to look at the fact that the big names are wanting to exhibit their art here.
“Pete Doherty’s work is not run of the mill, but we should look at the positives instead of focusing on the stranger aspects. It will bring people to the area and that is a great thing.”
The exhibition opens tomorrow and runs until January 18 2009. The gallery will be open to the public from 1pm.
