A DRUNKEN teenager went on what he described to police as an “idiotic rampage” causing more than £4,000 worth of damage to parked cars.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Ian Eric Eccles attacked seven vehicles in the Knuzden Brook area as he made his way home in the early hours of the morning.
He was eventually detained by three of the car owners who had been woken by his antics and went out separately to look for the attacker.
Eccles, 19, of Gloucester Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to four charges and asked for three others on the same night to be taken into consideration.
He also pleaded guilty to smashing a house window on another occasion. Eccles was ordered to do 180 hours unpaid work, made subject to an electronically monitored curfew between 8pm and 6am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for 20 weeks, and ordered to pay £700 compensation.
Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said the incidents had all taken place around 4am. He detailed how £750 worth of damage was caused to a Ford Mondeo belonging to Raymond Mellor, a Toyota Yaris belonging to Ivor Boland was damaged to the tune of £1,036, nearly £2,000 worth of damage was caused to a Range Rover belong to Iftikhar Ahmed, £360 to a Mini Cooper belonging to Faye Bolton. A Ford Fiesta, a Nissan Primera and a Ford Iveco recovery truck were also damaged.
“Some of the damage was caused by throwing large plant pots at the vehicles,” said Mr Harrison Mr Mellor, Mr Boland and a Mr Khan all got dressed and went looking for Eccles and he was eventually detained until police arrived.
When interviewed Eccles, who had no previous convictions, said he had drunk a “vast” amount of alcohol before going on his “idiotic rampage.” He told police he couldn’t remember what he had done or even which way he had walked on his way home.
Eccles, who was not represented, said he was sorry and it wouldn’t happen again.
