STRANGE noises were heard coming from a Darwen pub’s latest music night.

The guttural growlings were not from drunken revellers – but from teen David Ward, a trained Tuvan throat singer.

The Siberian style of singing involves shaping the throat, lips and mouth, to produce a number of tones at once.

This ability is then used to create a range of notes, including a melody and several harmonic overtones, which is used to imitate sounds of nature.

David, 19, from Ivinson Road, has spent the last four years learning the craft.

He said: “Despite the deep growlings and strangling of my throat muscles, I don’t do any damage to my voice.

"I enjoy Tuvan singing because it makes me feel at one with nature."
