A TEENAGER who took his mum’s car in the early hours went through red traffic lights at twice the speed limit with police in pursuit.
Burnley magistrates heard how Martin Lee Davison, 19, then got an officer in a headlock when he stopped, put up a struggle and refused to give a breath test.
Davison, of Allendale Court, Allendale Street, Burnley, admitted taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, police assault, having no insurance or licence and failing to provide a breath specimen on July 21.
He was given 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and banned for a year. He must also do 100 hours’ unpaid work.
Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, told the court the defendant had gone to buy some beer from a garage and decided to go to a park to drink it.
Police in an unmarked vehicle began to follow him and he clocked up to 60mph in 30mph zones and turned off his lights.
The police backed off and Davison stopped.
Officers went to the car and the defendant got one in a headlock.
Nick Dearing, defending, said: “He can’t explain how he managed to aggravate a minor incident.”
