HIP-hop poets Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip are set to shatter the peace and quiet of Burnley’s central library.

But the chart-busting duo will not be asked to leave by angry librarians - as they will be headlining a December 7 gig at the historic venue.

The pairing is embarking on a national Christmas libraries tour and have pencilled in just two dates in Lancashire, picking Burnley and Lancaster for their eclectic literate take on hip-hop.

County books experts have been promoting their Get It Loud In Librarians programme and have welcomed the likes of Adele, The Wombats and Black Kids to other venues in Lancashire but the Dan Le Sac date is the first in Burnley.

The pair’s debut single, Thou Shalt Always Kill, a spoken-word effort over hip-hop electronica, registered well with more cerebral music fans, as did their follow-up, Letter From God to Man.

Scroobius Pip said: “I have effectively grown up in libraries since my mum has always worked in them.

“People don’t realise how lucky we are to have so much information and literature literally at our fingertips.”

The tour, which will kick off in Walsall and also visit Skelmersdale, Poole and the pair’s home county of Essex, will be rounded off by a performance in the British Library.

A spokesman for the promoters said: “The tour will allow young people who may not read regularly, or visit libraries, the chance to pull shapes in an unique venue, and be motivated to join their local library by both the cleverness of the songcraft and the book-clad backdrop of the shows.”

Indie folk poet George Pringle will provide support for the tour, which is being staged as part of the National Year of Reading.

Tickets will be priced at £6 but there is a £1 concession for library members. Joining the county’s libraries is free.
