A FLYER from a Jimi Hendrix gig in Nelson sold for £840.
The flyer – with Jimi’s name mis-spelt as Jimmy – advertised a concert by the legendary rocker at the Imperial Ballroom on May 6, 1967.
Entrance to the gig cost eight shillings (40p), but the four-inch by 15 inch flyer sold for 2,100 times that price.
The £840 sale price was £140 more than expected. The identity of the buyer was not revealed.
The Imperial, Carr Road, attracted the most illustrious names in pop music in the sixties.
The Beatles liked the “Imp” so much they performed there twice, on May 11 and July 31,1963.
The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Otis Redding and Van Morrison also appeared there.
