HYNDBURN residents have been named best recyclers in the UK for the second year running.
Hyndburn Borough Council has sent the least amount of waste to landfill compared with all other UK councils.
It sent only 293.30 kg per person, according to latest figures from Defra.
Coun Peter Clarke, cabinet member for environmental issues, said: “This is fantastic news and big thanks should go to all our residents who are keen recyclers.
“Keeping residual waste to a minimum is a big part of helping us smash our recycling targets and current figures show we are now recycling 38% of household waste, which is equivalent of almost 10 bins per household.
“Our ground breaking Waste Watching for Schools initiative, and High Schools Challenge, recycling, has also played a big part in the success.”
