MORE than 100 firefighters tackled a huge blaze in Burnley last night.
Emergency services were called to the massive fire at a derelict Woodfield Mill, Trafalgar Street, not far from junction 10 of the M65.
Flames rose more than 100 feet into the night sky and the fire could be seen from miles around.
The three-storey building was completely engulfed in flames and an exterior wall collapsed.
Fire engines from across the area were brought in to tackle the blaze and water was being sprayed from an aerial ladder platform high above the badly damaged roof of the factory.
Many of the surrounding roads were closed off to traffic as police tried to keep people away from the scene.
Large crowds of people gathered nearby to watch the drama as burning material spewed into the sky.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue officials said it was unclear initially what had caused the blaze.
