A DAD is so desperate to find work he is setting up a project where he does a different job every day of the year.
Jamie Dodd, of Earnsdale Avenue, Darwen, has decided that to find his vocation in life he has to experience as many different jobs as possible.
As a result he has come up with the idea for Project 365. Starting the day after his 30th birthday - May 8, 2009 - Jamie aims to get a day’s pay from a different job each day of the year, finishing on his 31st birthday.
The former catering worker said: “I haven’t been able to find work. I’ve been going to job centres and agencies but I’ve been finding difficulties.
“These things tend to pass you by as you get older.
“I have worked in the catering industry and flitted from job to job. I write and do art, and a job to me just paid the bills, but once you have children, that all changes.
“My daughter is five now and she wants me to get a job. She’s realised that daddy doesn’t work.
“When your little girl needs shoes then you have to think differently.
“So after a discussion with friends I decided to give this idea a go.
“I’ve always been fascinated by different occupations and what makes people want to do their jobs - what motivates them.”
Jamie, who is married to Jennifer, said that he had ideas for themed weeks where he would sample different types of work in the same field.
He said that he needed employers willing to give him a job for the day to come forward.
“Logistically it’s a nightmare,” Jamie said.
“I have a big list of ideas, now I just need employers interested so I can get in touch.
“My wife Jennifer thinks it’s a great idea and is backing me all the way.
“Most people think it’s a good idea.
“I hope to write a book about my experiences when I’ve done the project, but I’m not doing this out of anything but necessity.”
Jamie is open to all suggestions, and is even planning to spent a night on the streets in Manchester.
He also aims to work for charity, which he will not be paid for.
