A CHARITY chief has thanked the people of Darwen for their generosity in helping raise up to £10,000 for this year’s Poppy Appeal.
Bryan Thompson, president of the Darwen branch of the Royal British Legion, said they were on course to hit the £10,000 mark, a figure that looked out of reach a few weeks ago.
He said: “This achieve-ment is down to the appeal we put in the Lancashire Telegraph and the brilliant response we got from that.
“The people of Darwen are so generous and have always supported us.
“The army cadet corps were so helpful and gave us a tremendous helping hand.
“Darwen Rotary Club delivered all the poppies to the various outlets and without their help we would have had no stock.
“I just want to say a huge thank-you to everyone who helped.”
