A BOROUGH has spent £57,000 on 87 new dog fouling bins - and a man with a van to empty them.
The bins will be placed across Hyndburn to try to combat the problem of owner's who fail to clean up after their pets.
Cabinet member for environmental issues, Coun Peter Clarke said, “Dog fouling is a problem for all councils and we want to sort it out once and for all in Hyndburn. It’s something that councillors receive lots of complaints about, and whilst most dog owners are responsible, the few irresponsible ones spoil it for us all.
"People have been telling us that they want more dog bins around the borough, and previously we didn’t have the capacity to empty any extra bins, so I’m delighted that many of the 87 new bins are now in place."
Coun Clarke added: “We already had a list of requests for sites from residents and we’ve also asked area councils for their suggestions, then to make it fair we split the allocation based on the population of the wards.”
