LANCASHIRE Police Authority has scooped a national award for its website.
The authority was presented with the Association of Police Authorities (APA) award for ‘Excellence in Innovation’ at the association’s annual conference.
The award recognised its work to ensure that its website was user-friendly to the widest possible audience.
The website was re-launched in 2007 with a raft of accessibility features including Readaloud for people with reading difficulties and incorporating a British Sign Language micro site.
Miranda Carruthers-Watt, chief executive of Lancashire Police Authority, said; “We are all delighted that our efforts to enhance the access to our information on behalf of the whole community has been recognised in this way.
“The website has had nearly two million visitors to date and we know that people use all the accessibility features, as we’ve had compliments from those who have used its Readaloud and BSL micro sites.”
Lancashire Police also received commendation certificates in two other categories of the awards, namely ‘Community Engagement’ and ‘Collaboration’.
