A DRUNKEN man who phoned police and told them he had a knife and was going to kill someone has been jailed for four months.
Blackburn magistrates heard Paul Mahon had committed an identical offence in September, for which he was also sent into custody.
Mahon, 51, of Mosley Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to possession of a dinner knife.
Isla Chilton, prosecuting, said Mahon made a 999 call from a phone box. Because of the knife threat, when police arrived they sent dogs to detain Mahon. When interviewed, he said he had been drinking strong cider all day and didn’t remember the police dogs tackling him.
Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said drink had caused the death of Mahon’s wife and the defendant had gone further and further down since then.
