MORE than 3,000 people in Lancashire have become unemployed in the past year, new figures reveal.
The official Labour Market statistics show a total of 15,259 claiming Jobseekers Allowance – an increase of 3,428 on the previous year.
In East Lancashire, there were 1,623 people unemployed in Burnley in the year up to October, 1,258 in Hyndburn, 1,305 in Chorley, 1,333 in Pendle, 968 in Rossendale, and 319 in Ribble Valley.
Blackburn with Darwen’s statistics, which are collated separately, show 2,745 people out of work, up by 547 on the previous year.
Nationally, unemployment has reached 1.82million and is expected to hit two million by Christmas.
