LANCASHIRE County Council council engineers are investigating problems with new road surfacing at a busy Accrington junction.
The junction of Blackburn Road and Oxford Street was recently resurfaced, but Lancashire County Council bosses said they were considering asking contractors to re-do the work.
County Coun Janice Hanson, cabinet member for highways and planning, said: “We are concerned that the material used by the contractors may not be up to specification as stones are already being shed from the surface.
“The worst area is at the top of Oxford Street as there is a lot of traffic turning at this point.
“The contractor and material suppliers are aware of the problem and our analysts are already testing the materials at the county council’s laboratory.
“Once we have more information it may be that remedial work needs to be carried out and any costs will have to be covered by the contractors or the supplier, depending on the circumstances.”
The road remains open to traffic and sweeping is being carried out as a safety precaution.
