A PRIMARY school headteacher has hit out at vandals who smashed up his pupils’ vegetable garden.
The trashed garden is the latest incident in a catalogue of damage caused by ‘mindless’ yobs who have targeted St Paul’s RC Primary School, in Preston Old Road, Feniscowles, Blackburn.
The vandals removed a gate from the side of the building on Thursday night and then smashed two perspex panels, an ornamental trellis, and daubed graffiti over the walls.
Acting headteacher Jeff Brown said: “The actions of these people are shameful.
“The garden is a very special area for our school. The children plant their own vegetables and we use them in our school dinners as part of our healthy eating campaign.
“It is just completely mindless for someone to come here and start throwing plant pots around and destroying the child-ren’s hard work.”
It is thought that the damage may have been caused by a gang of youths who have been seen hanging around nearby on several occasions.
Mr Brown added: “We have had problems at the site for some time, and over the summer we liaised with the neighbourhood policing team, who carried out regular checks of the grounds.
“Unfortunately, now that it is getting dark it is easier for these vandals to go unnoticed.
“Local residents have been very supportive and have often phoned police on our behalf.
“I would urge them to continue with their vigil-ance and report anything they see. “
