THE owner of a Darwen-based cat rescue centre says the credit crunch has led to an “enourmous” amount of cats needing rehoming.
Maureen Savage, who runs Moggies Cat Rescue, says that she has been inundated with an unprecedented number of cats and kittens this year.
She said: “I’ve had three cats left on my doorstep in the last two weeks and a litter of kittens was found in Witton Park.
“I have a list as long as my arm of people who want me to rehome their cats.
“There are cats everywhere and I haven’t got room to keep them.
“With the credit crunch, people can’t afford to keep them, and with Christmas and New Year, people go away and don’t want them.
“I’ve got 13 kittens at the moment and that’s not common at this time of year.”
Maureen urgently needs people to rehome the cats.
She is also looking for donations of bedding, food, litter trays, hot water bottles or donations to her vet’s bill which currently stands at £1,455.
All cats are blood-tested, neutered and have received innoculations.
