A THREE-year parking row has been finally resolved after plans for double yellow lines on one of Clitheroe’s busiest streets were rejected.
The debate over Moor Lane, Clitheroe, was settled at a heated Lancashire Local Ribble Valley meeting.
Traffic regulation orders proposed for the area were rejected by the committee, which voted to uphold the original plan.
The key vote followed months of highways surveys and meetings and consultations.
Traders — who had opposed the double yellow lines, which they said would hit business — residents and parish councillors came to the meeting. eaking afterwards County Coun Chris Holtom, chair of Lancashire councillor for Ribble Valley South West, said: “It is in the county and the borough council’s best interest to ensure Clitheroe and any market town in the Ribble Valley is accessible, safe and vibrant for businesses, visitors and residents.
“This issue has been with us and debated for three years.
“I am pleased we, as councillors, have collectively carefully considered all the views regarding this important issue and have come to a decision democratically. It has been a difficult decision, but one I feel meets the overall needs of the town.”
Highway maintenance works are currently underway in Moor Lane to improve the kerbing and resurface the road.
Dedicated crossing points and loading bays are being created and improvements made to the footways.
The Lancashire Local committee is made up of four county and four borough councillors.
Its next meeting is in January.
