FIREFIGHTERS had to call in extra help to tackle a large rubbish fire in Rossendale.
Crews were at the scene in Dean Lane, Water, for five hours. They had arrived at 10.10pm yesterday to find tonnes of old kitchen cupboards and other debris alight, with a strong wind risking spreading the blaze spreading to nearby stables.
Lancashire’s urban search and rescue team was called to provide specialist lighting and moving equipment to dismantle the pile of rubbish.
