MORE than £400,000 will be spent on an ‘exciting’ new makeover at a town’s civic hall.
Plans have been unveiled for Ramsbottom Civic Hall in Market Place to receive a “huge amount” of work.
And the community have been asked to work with council chiefs in a bid to create successful long-term plans for the refur-bishment. Plans for the work include a new roof, replacement windows, a new bar and kitchen area that are due to take place “as soon as possible”.
Secretary of the Civic Hall, Janet Smith said: “We are all excited about the makeover of the hall.
“It is in high demand with residents around the area, and I’m sure the work will be fantastic as soon as it has been finished.”
The £400,000 that is to be spent on The Civic Hall, came from the sale of the adult education offices in Bolton Street.
Questionnaires were filled out and local residents have given feedback about their needs and future use of the hall.
The secretary says the council has received enough feedback from residents and bosses are confident people will make use of the ‘exciting new hall’.
She added: “The amount of money we have to spend on the refurbishment is finite.
“There will be an increased capacity to the first-floor space, including a lift, which will attract a more diverse range of uses for community groups.
“Hopefully when everything is finished it will be a top class venue for people across the area to use.”
The work is set to be completed over a period of two years.
