COUNCILLORS will visit the proposed sites of three new Burnley superschools before deciding whether they can be built.
Members of Lancashire County Council development control committee yesterday decided to inspect the areas that could be transformed into the new 1,250-place Blessed Trinity RC College and 750-pupil Hameldon Community College.
And they will also look at a site in Greenock Street which could become a secondary school for children with special needs.
The plans for the schools form part of the £250million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme which has been rolled out across Burnley and Nelson.
Phase One of the project – which saw the opening of Shuttleworth College in Padiham, Pendle Vale College, Pendle Community High School and Burnley Campus – was completed in September.
If councillors approve, Hameldon Community College will be built in Coal Clough Lane complete with a 15 metre-high wind turbine.
Meanwhile, the new Blessed Trinity RC College will be on the former St Theodore’s school site in Ormerod Road.
Yesterday, the council committee chaired by Coun Miles Parkinson, unanimously agreed to head out to Burnley to look at the sites after being briefed by officers.
The applications are now likely to be reconsidered next month.
