A CAROL service with a difference will take place in Blackburn this Christmas as the town aims to set a zany world record.
If your name is Carol, Carole, Karol or even Karel you are being asked to take part in a world record attempt which aims to stage the biggest ever gathering of people with those names as their forename or surname.
The record attempt is part of Blackburn Town Centre Partnership’s programme of events in the run up to Christmas and organisers have their sights set firmly on the Guinness Book of Records.
Phil Ainsworth, owner of Ainsworth Jewellers and a member of the town centre partnership, said: “We want as many people with the name Carol or variant of the name to come along and get involved.
“There is now a prominent Polish and Czech community in Blackburn and the North West, so we would love any Karols or Karels to get involved too.
“The Guinness Book of Records attempt is a bit of Christmas fun, but provides people with another reason to visit Blackburn during the festive season.”
The record breaking Carol service will take place on Saturday, December 6, and there will even be an adjudicator from the famous book of records on hand on the day.
The gathering will take place at the Winter Wonderland igloo which will be at the heart of the town’s festive celebrations.
Those taking part in the record attempt will be able to take away a certificate confirming their involvement in the event.
Last week, it was revealed that the Winter Wonderland igloo will open on Lancashire Day - November 27 - and run right up to December 23, giving retailers the chance to showcase products as well as featuring festive arts and cultural events and food and drink related demonstrations.
The partnership has also launched a loyalty card scheme to help increase business for retailers in the run up to Christmas.
Other activities in the packed programme include Taste Lancashire craft markets on November 27 and December 11, a Christmas light switch-on on Saturday, November 15, and the annual carol concert at the Cathedral and fireworks display on December 17.
