CONSTRUCTION of Burnley’s new £81m state-of-the-art College and University campus is now well under way.
The campus, situated next to the former paper works building which closed in 2004, is rapidly altering the Burnley skyline.
The development is just one of four major projects that are taking place near the new Princess Way site.
These include the closure and relocation of the council tip, the development of a new Homebase due to open next Easter, and the demolition of the old Paper Works.
A spokesperson from Burnley College said: ”The development of the new campus is momentous for Burnley and the surrounding area of Pennine Lancashire. It will create the most up to date facilities for Burnley College incorporating a sixth form centre and a separate skills and adult centre. For the first time, the development will also bring a university directly into Burnley.”
Students who began the first year of a two year course at Burnley College this September will be able to take advantage of the brand new facilities in their second year at the new site.
The plans to build state-of-the-art facilities for the college were given the go-ahead after an extensive consultation process with students and staff.
The campus will include a full-sized indoor multi-use sports pitch for a variety of sports including five-a-side football, volleyball, and badminton.
A large climbing wall will also be installed for students interested in outward bound courses.
