A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a motorist was killed in a collision on a notorious road.

Jonathan Salter, 46, died in hospital this morning after the accident in Keighley Road, Laneshawbridge, that saw his car flip onto his roof.

A 22-year-old man from Hapton has been arrested and is now being questioned by investigators.

Mr Salter, of Bingley, West Yorkshire, was travelling towards Colne at the time of the accident on Tuesday night.

He was driving a Land Rover 90 and towing a trailer when he collided with a Renault Clio that was attempting to overtake.

Officers are keen to speak to a motorist who was driving in the opposite direction at the time of the accident and may have witnessed the crash.

Sgt Tracey Ward, of the traffic police, said: “A thorough investigation is now underway into this tragic incident and a police family liaison officer has been placed with the family affected.

“In order to assist us with our inquiries, I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to us.

“In particular, we would like to hear from the driver of a vehicle travelling towards West Yorkshire at the time of the incident who may have seen the collision or the immediate aftermath.”

Police said both vehicles were heading in the direction of Colne when the accident happened close to the former Emmott Arms building, at a notorious accident black spot.

The road traffic accident investigation unit attended the scene and the road was closed for around four hours.

Mr Salter was taken for treatment at Airedale Hospital where he later died.
