A TEENAGE girl was left with broken bones and spinal injuries after absconding from a mental health centre and ending up on a railway track, police said.
Officers said it was unclear if the 17-year-old had jumped or fallen down an embankment on to the railway line at the bottom of Meadow Bank, Accrington.
A train driver told officers the girl managed to roll out of the way of his oncoming train at 6.40pm today.
She sustained two broken bones in her leg and spinal injuries and was lifted to safety by firecrew and paramedics.
The injuries are believed to have been sustained during a fall as the train did not hit her, police said.
The girl had absconded from a nearby mental health centre at around 6.10pm, according to officers.
Train services were briefly suspended while the rescue took place.
