A PETITION containing more than 100 names has been lodged with Rossendale planners against proposals for a takeway and cafe in Stacksteads.

And six individual letters of objection have been received opposing proposals to convert the Newchurch Road shop and apartment into an eaterie.

Critics say the bid would generate too much extra parking, disruption and litter.

Residents also claim there are enough takeaways already in Stacksteads and a further one would damage the character of the area.

But Rossendale council planning officials have recommended the scheme for approval, saying that it there is already a public car park nearby.

The local authority has acknowledged though that the proposed opening hours, between 8.30am and 12.30am, appear to be ‘excessive’, given the proximity of nearby homes.

Rossendale’s development control committee will consider the plans tonight in a meeting at Hardman Mill, Rawtenstall.
