A MAN is recovering in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a fight outside a taxi rank.

The 28-year-old from Baxenden is in a comfortable condition in Royal Blackburn Hospital after the assault outside CB Taxis, Church Street, Accrington, at 4.30am on Saturday.

Police in Accrington are keen to speak to witnesses.

They said two men were attacked by two other men and one of them was knocked to the floor.

Church Street was closed today whilst crime scene investigators examined the area.

Det Insp Andy Hulme said: “Although this assault happened in the early hours of the morning, given it was a busy Friday night, somebody must have seen something.

"I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Two men aged 20 and 21 from Accrington have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are being questioned.
