RUSH-hour traffic was brought to a halt after an eight-car pile-up on the Edenfield bypass.
Police were alerted to the incident, which was on the southbound carriageway, at just after 8am yesterday.
A Vauxhall Vectra, a Skoda, a BMW and a Vauxhall Astra were blocking lane two and were recoverd.
Four other cars involved in the smash, a VW Passat, a Vauxhall Astra, a Honda and a VW saloon car, were moved to a layby and were able to be driven away.
Those involved in the crash are believed to have suffered only minor injuries.
Traffic was snarled up all the way back to the Winfields roundabout at Rising Bridge as rush-hour traffic struggled to pass the accident scene.
