A FORMER real-life spy has poured scorn on the James Bond image of life as a secret agent.

Sigrid Green said she loves the films, and will watch the new Daniel Craig movie, but said that the stories are “not like reality”.

Mrs Green, who was an undercover agent during the second world war, said: “I love James Bond films, and I enjoy reading the books, but they’re all so far removed from reality.

“But they are wonderful stories and I could watch them all day, again and again.

“Sean Connery was my favourite Bond, I think he did the best job. And my favourite film was Dr No.

“I don’t really like Bond girls. They are not spies and it wasn’t like that at all.

“Being a spy was a hard slog, there was lots of waiting around. But it was just a job.”

Mrs Green signed up for the WAAF (Women’s Royal Auxiliary Air Force) in 1942.

Because she has a Norwegian mother and speaks Norwegian she was sent to the occupied country, living under the codename Nora.

She liaised undercover with Norwegian resistance fighters and helped infiltrate German sea patrols, relaying information to military bosses in London.

Her parents and two brothers died without ever knowing the truth about her wartime experiences.

“It wasn’t how they paint it at all, with all this romance. I never even knew I was listening to the German High Command.

“It was the most boring job I've ever done.”
