A PRIMARY school is celebrating being named “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors.
Mount Pleasant Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors was praised for providing “excellent teaching”.
Headteacher Ann Duke said she was “absolutely thrilled” with the result. The Duke Street school was rated outstanding in all categories they were inspected in, the highest rank achievable.
Mrs Duke said: “It is an amazing report and we are absolutely thrilled.
“Our school was rated ‘good’ in the last inspection three years ago and I am delighted for the staff here, whose high level of personal commitment to the children has pushed us to the top level.”
Chair of governors Miles Parkinson added: “To have an outstanding school in Clayton is great news and I am very pleased.”
The report states: “The outstanding leadership and management of the school is the key to its success.
“The headteacher has overseen a remarkable transition following an earlier period in the school’s history when staffing was unstable and achievement and standards were low.
“Her drive and determination are infectious. ‘I think the school is improving all the time’ was a typical parental comment.
“Teaching is able to flourish because pupils’ attitudes to learning are excellent. They enjoy coming to school where behaviour is exemplary and attendance is good.”
