AN OVERGROWN patch of land which is a magnet for fly-tippers is set to become part of a new Pendle business park after it was bought by a developer.

In 2002 Pendle Council declared part of the land at Swinden Clough, off Regent Street, Nelson, surplus to requirements and marketed it for sale.

It was bought by RB Business Park Ltd for £190,000 and planning permission was later granted for an office devel-opment, which is under con-struction.

But a small patch was left adjacent to the office devel-opment and it is said to have become ‘untidy.’ Now the land is set to be cleaned up after the local authority accepted an offer of £14,607 from RB Business Park Ltd for its freehold interest in the area. Bradley ward councillor Mohammed Iqbal, said: “I think the offer was made quite a few weeks ago, but this tidies up that bit of land that was left over when they bought the first part. It ties up the loose ends.”

In a report submitted to Pendle Council’s Executive a spoke-sman said the land, close to allotments and a multi-use games area, had become over-grown and vacant.’ It also stated that there have been instances of fly-tipping and that an informal parking areahas developed at the 572 square metre site.

According to council officers, the sale will end its maintenance liability and could pave the way for the land to be brought into beneficial use.

The deal was recommended for approval to members of the Nelson committee, who opted to accept it.
