A BRICK-throwing yob has been slammed after smashing the windscreen of a lorry as it was driven on a motorway.

Lorry driver David Robinson said he feared for his life as the brick shattered his windscreen as he drove at night near Burnley.

It is the second time in a week that a car windscreen has been smashed by objects thrown at vehicles on the M65.

Mr Robinson, 41, was heading towards Blackburn on the M65 when a brick was launched from a footbridge at the Mercedes Benz lorry from a footbridge overhead near junction 11 of the M65 at Burnley.

He had been travelling to Swinton to deliver some curtains and blinds at 3.10am this morning when the incident occurred.

Police condemed the “very serious” incident and said the motorist’s life was in danger.

Dad-of-three Mr Robinson, from Colne, said: “You just don’t expect anything like this to happen.

"Half of the windscreen is broken - it’s a complete mess.

“There was such a massive bang when it hit - at first I thought I had hit something.

“It was really scary because it was really dark. I didn’t see it coming at all.

“I’d been watching the road for animals running out and cars joining the road - not at people on bridges at that time of night.

"If they’d have been dressed in black I wouldn’t have been able to see them at all.

“They must have a very sick sense of humour.”

As he passed junction 11, the brick hit the windscreen, making a massive bang and shattering the glass.

Shaken, he immediately pulled over and called the police.

He added: “It could have been much more serious - there were two or three cars on the road but it could have been a family travelling in a car - or a child of mine in the passenger seat and I would have had to live with that for the rest of my life.”

Sgt Phil Carter said: “This was a very serious incident which could potentially have had fatal consequences.”

Just last week, at around 7pm on Monday, October 13, a car driven by John Rawlinson on the M65 was struck by a rock thrown from a bridge near Barrowford.
