A taser gun was used on a man threatening to slit his own throat with the lid of a sardine tin in Blackburn yesterday.
The man, standing by the side of Barbara Castle Way, near Larkhill Health Centre, had been self-harming with the lid.
Police said when they arrived at 3.45pm, he held it to his throat.
One officer kept the man talking, while another deployed a taser gun.
The man was arrested and taken to a Royal Blackburn Hospital pyschiatric ward.
