A MAN was rescued from a burning flat in St James Close, Church, and was then arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson.
Neighbours reported seeing smoke coming from a rear window of the first-floor flat at 2.15pm yesterday.
Firefighters from Accrington broke down the door of the flat and rescued the 29-year-old man, who was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. He did not require hopsital treatment.
Nobody else was in the premises at the time.
Insp Rob Campbell said that no serious damage was caused by the fire and that the cause was under investigation.
Firefighters were at the scene for 90 minutes.
