HEROES of Darwen will be rewarded at the town’s Christmas lights switch-on next month.

Darwen Shop and Business Association and Darwen Community Centres are asking for nominations of people who have made an exceptional contribution to the lives of others or the community.

Entries will be whittled down to six, and the top three will recieve a medal - either gold, silver of bronze, to tie in with the Olympic theme of this year.

The gold medal winner will be asked to switch the lights on alongside Darwen’s Paralympic silver medal winner Felicity Coulthard on November 22.

Eileen Guy, chair of Darwen Shop and Business Association said: “There are so many local heroes in Darwen and the businesses and community centres feel they should receive some recognition.

“Now we need friends, neighbours and family members to nominate the people and give a reason for the nomination.”

There is no age limit but entrants must live in Darwen. Nomination forms can be picked up from Darwen Market.
