A CANNABIS farm was found after police swooped on an empty house in Burnley.

Officers smashed their way into the property, in Healywood Road, and discovered plants worth around £1,000.

However, they found no one in the house and said it seemed it had been used purely for growing the drug.

After the operation, PCSO Simon Turpin said: “The warrant illustrates our determination to rid the local neighbourhood of drug-related activity and I hope the police activity at this address, and the removal of the cannabis plants, helps to reassure the local community.

“We believe we removed approximately £1,000 worth of cannabis which will now be destroyed and around £500 worth of lighting and equipment which will now be examined by forensics experts.”

The warrant, in the Trinity area of the town, forms part of the week-long Not in My Neighbourhood campaign, which aims to raise awareness of local policing.

PCSO Turpin added: “Residents regularly come to local PACT meetings and tell us they are concerned about the use of drugs so we are determined the tackle the problem.”

The raid on the house in Healywood Road is the latest swoop on drugs farms by officers across Burnley and Pendle.

Last month, police seized heroin with a street value of £10,000 after raiding a house in Whittle Court, off Spa Street.
