VOTERS in Darwen go to the polls today to decide whether they want a town council.
Voters are being asked whether they want a town council as well as one of five neighbourhood boards being set up across the borough.
A town council would be given community-level powers, be consulted on planning applications and would have its own mayor.
It would cost each resident around £9 a year for Band A property.
A ‘yes’ vote would have to be ratified by the borough council and then, if given the go-ahead, elections would take place to vote in its own councillors.
The polls are open from 7am to 8pm with the count taking place this evening.
