The Colne branch of the Workers’ Education Association (WEA) agreed at its meeting last month that it would disband unless its membership increased.
The WEA, which was formed in 1903, provides opportunities for people who wish to continue learning as well as those who want to return to education.
A seven-week course called The Story In The Book, which has just started, is designed for those who find reading tiring because of eyesight difficulties.
Classes are held at Nelson and Colne College’s Reedyford site from 7pm to 9pm.
Other new courses include 160 Years Of Local Railways, starting on Wednesday October 22 and Introduction to World Religions, which begins on January 13.
