THE Environment Agen-cy is appealing for infor-mation after the River Lostock was polluted again, killing hundreds of fish.
On Monday a member of the public contacted the agency to report dead fish on the surface of the water.
The river flows through Brindle, Whittle-le-Woods and Clayton-le-Woods.
Officers immediately visited the scene and confirmed that a pollution incident had occurred, very similar to one earlier this year.
Dave Fleming, environ-ment managem-ent team leader, said: “This pollution has been re-occurring every six weeks over the last few months, but this is the worst case we have seen so far.
“Despite our ongoing investigations, we have not yet been able to find the cause for this.
“The area is mainly residential and we believe it may be possible that the pollution is coming from the surface water drainage system.
“We are appealing to the public to help us find the cause so that we can put a stop to it and help prevent any more damage to the river.
“We’re asking people to check the connections from their toilets and washing machines, espe-cially in newly built houses to make sure that they are connected to a foul sewer and not one that is going to a river.”
Anybody with infor-mation or who spots anything suspicious in the area can call 0800 80 70 60.
