Friends of Sunnyhurst Wood are busy with a range of projects to improve the beauty spot.
Members met Rebecca Cleaver from Ponds For People to discuss a management plan for the newly-restored Ellis Gibson pond.
President Denis Gillibrand, said: “Foliage is growing well and tadpoles and a newt have been seen.
“Rebecca has taken our management plan to work with, and as soon as we get it back, we can start thinking of phase three of the project which is developing the pond for educational visits.”
The group has also created a bench made out of stone taken from the pond during its restoration.
Their next project is installing safety flooring in the children’s swing area of the wood at a cost of between £4,000 and £6,000.
