Long delays are building on the M6 southbound after a collision, with emergency services on the scene.

Traffic is building after two lanes were closed between J28 at Leyland and J27 at Standish.

Lanes have now reopened but there are still 70 minutes of queues due to the backlog.

Police have confirmed that the incident was damage only and were called to the site at 4:41pm this afternoon, December 4.

Congestion is now stretching back to the M61 road split.

Motorists were briefly held at the scene before lanes were reopened.

Alternative routes include exiting the motorway at Bamber Bridge and using Wigan Road to bypass the major delays before re-joining at J27 at Shevington Moor.
