Drivers are being warned to expect long delays at one of Blackburn’s busiest junctions.
Workers had installed four-way temporary traffic lights at the King Street and Montague Street junction on Monday morning.
One lane in Montague Street had been cordoned and long queues were already forming on Wainwright Way.
There are also queues in King Street heading out of the town centre on the same road heading in Montague Street.
The junction is used for drivers heading to and from the Wainwright Bridge and also those heading away from town towards Witton Park.
Two large schools are nearby including the Tauheedul Boys’ School and St Wilfrid's C of E Academy.
To avoid the delay drivers may be forced to head into the town centre in to Feilden Street or take a right on Oakenhurst Road.
Coming off Wainwright Bridge drivers may look at taking a left on Canterbury Street.
One driver caught up in the delays said: "It is going to carnage this one. I can't see any way round it without getting in a queue. I guess we will have to grin and bear it."
