Chorley's Kyran Thrax was ‘overcome with emotion’ after being crowned winner of the hit BBC Three show, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Kyran Thrax, 26, was one of 10 hopeful drag queens competing across 10 weeks in a variety of challenges and games designed to test their drag ability.

La Voix, Kyran Thrax, Marmalade and Rileasa Slaves went head to head in a bid to snatch the crown in Thursday's grand finale.

The sixth series of the UK version of RuPaul's Drag Race made history as the first time queens could win a cash prize - a fixture of the US series - of £25,000.

Kyran has been a drag artist for four years.

Posting on Instagram this weekend Kyran said: “My brain can’t comprehend it right now so I’ll talk more tomorrow, but I can’t stop crying. Thank you, thank you so much.

“Season 6 is officially finished. I’ve been so emotional all week thinking about this coming to an end, it truly has been the best time of my life, I will cherish every single moment forever.

“I’m so grateful to all of you for cheering me on this entire time, for accepting me. I’m so grateful to this incredible cast of queens. And I’m so grateful for my mother.

“I can never express how much this has meant to me, and I can’t wait for you all to see what comes next. Thank you @dragraceukbbc - you made my dreams come true.

“The concept for this look came from me wanting to do an ode to my younger self, there was so much self doubt, so much darkness - I wanted to honour myself for surviving that situation and most importantly, for making myself proud.”

Drag Race UK fans were delighted with a rambunctious new cast, and a competition with even more twists, more laughs and more sass as a fresh new set of  drag queens compete to be crowned The UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar.

In episode five Kyran opened up about being groomed online.

Their abuser, who posed as a teenager and targeted a 13-year-old Kyran shortly after they came out, was sent to prison but Kyran said the ordeal "made me despise myself".

"I hated myself so much because I saw everything falling apart around me."

Inspiring Kyran was crowned winner of the hit showSpeaking before the show they said: “I’m a performer, and whilst studying acting and contemporary theatre at drama school, I was doing Shakespeare, expressionism, and clowning... and so I thought why not put it all together and mix it with my love of make-up and drag.

“I’ve been doing drag for four years, and I’ve been doing it full-time for two. I absolutely love it.

Kyran said their drag inspiration is Lady Gaga, saying: “She's a creative genius! I'm also inspired by art-house horror films and of course, my mum!"

The Lancashire Telegraph has spoken to Kyran, real name Kyran Peet, in the past. We spoke to them about charity work and being a child sexual exploitation survivor.

Aged 19, Kyran raised £2,200 through sponsorship for The Children's Society by being one of 12 people to take part in a week-long expedition, which took in rainforest, mountains and beaches.

Kyran wanted to give something back to the national charity, The Children's Society, that helped them when they were groomed by an older man they met through Facebook aged just 13.

RuPaul, affectionately known as Mama Ru, leads a judging panel that includes regular judges, Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, Graham Norton and celebrity guest judges. Together, they deliberate the fate of the queens but it is queen of queens, Mama Ru, who has the final word on who leaves the competition.
