Pupils and staff from a Blackburn school have been celebrating being honoured by Active Lancashire.

Audley Junior School were named Active Lancashire Primary School of the Year beating ten other schools from the county. 

The award was presented during a special assembly attended by sports coach, Zaynab Jogi, Director of business at Active Lancashire, Sarah Bennett, Blackburn with Darwen’s Sports Council’s, Yakoob Hussain and Jolie Moon, recruitment consultant of the Spencer Clarke Group who sponsored the award. 

The award recognised the work of Audley Junior School which is rolling out a Junior Active Leaders course.

This is a 20-hour training program equipping young children with the knowledge and skills needed to run activities and games for other children to take part in during breaks and lunchtimes on the playground.

The school held a special assembly to celebrateThe school was also named Primary School of the Year at the BwD Sports Council Awards in July.

The award was recognised the variety of after-school clubs children take part in, including, boxing, self-defence, yoga and zumba.

Zaynab, also known as Zee, also puts on sessions for parents during school hours to give them a taster of some of the clubs that are available to them within the Audley community. These also included boxing, Zumba, Pilates and core and stretch exercises.

The school hosted a number activities during their annual Healthy Week with Zee putting on boxing classes for all 400 children. 

In addition to this, the school works with the RAF, Royal Navy and YPS, canoeing on Queen’s Park lake, Jag Tag and archery.
