A historical Lancashire pub has reopened after a 'huge six-figure investment'.

The Chieftain Hotel in Morecambe, which is known for the 'iconic chieftain figure' that has sat on top of the entrance since the 1830s, has reopened after being closed since November last year.

The pub has been a pillar of the community for more than 100 years.

The investment has created two new jobs and added new features, while still maintaining its character.

This includes increasing capacity by 14, replacing fixed seating with tables and chairs, and adding a new sports area with three HD TVs, a pool table, and a dartboard.

Outdoors, the drinking space has also been refreshed with new paint and lighting.

The pub now has a new blue signage scheme.

Tzarina Clarke Devine, operator of the Chieftain Hotel, said: "We can’t wait to welcome guests back to our new-look pub with our reopening weekend events set to bring the community together for an unforgettable few days."

The reopening party will include a DJ and live musical performances from 4pm to 6pm and 8pm to 10pm.

The pub will also be hosting fund-raising activities for the Bay Veteran’s Association, a local charity, on Saturday.

There will be a raffle with prizes, a 'chase the joker' event, and locals will be shaving their heads to raise funds.

The pub’s efforts, along with support from the local community, are part of Craft Union’s ‘Make it a Million’ campaign.

Clarke Devine said: "The Bay Veteran’s charity is a charity that means a lot to us all in Morecambe, so we are thrilled to see so much interest and passion in raising as much money as possible for the charity this Saturday.

"We know the work completed has not only enhanced our warm and welcoming atmosphere but also strengthened the pub's community spirit, which was at the heart of our thoughts during the investment."
