A man and a woman who were arrested following the death of a woman in Ramsbottom have been released on bail, police said.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested the pair, both in their 30s, on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 70s was found dead in a house on Harrison Street on Tuesday, November 26.
A murder investigation was launched and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and her cause of death.
Speaking at the time, Detective Inspector Chris Mannion, Bury district, said: “Firstly, I would like to send my condolences to the family of the woman who has sadly died.
“Incidents of this nature will undoubtedly cause shock and distress to those who live and work in the area, we are working to piece together a timeline of events.
"We believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community."
One resident, who has lived on the street for more than 30 years, said how she was “shocked” to hear the news from another neighbour.
“Nothing like that has ever happened since I’ve lived here, it’s usually very quiet,” she added.
Another neighbour shared how they only realised that “something was wrong” after they saw police cars outside later that day.
She said: “It’s usually quiet here, mainly just young kids and families so not much goes on.”
The incident has been referred for a Home Office post-mortem examination, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the woman's death.
If you have information that could help the investigation, you can contact police via 101 or the Live Chat function of the GMP website at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 370 of 26/11/2024.
