A football and a local cricket legend both showed their support at an Accrington Stanley Community Trust fundraiser.

The Trust was originally established under the banner of Football in the Community in 2007, with the aim to bring the professional club and their community closer together.

Peter Beardsley and Accrington-born David 'Bumble' Lloyd both showed their support for the charity at a recent event at the Wham Stadium.

As well as playing at two World Cups for England Beardsley starred for Newcastle United, Liverpool and Everton during an illustrious career.

Accrington's Bumble played nine Tests for England during an 18-year career spent entirely at Lancashire, and after a brief spell as an umpire has become an iconic broadcaster and commentator on the sport. He also played for Stanley in the 1960s.

The event attracted more than a hundred guests from across HyndburnChair of the Trust, Purves Ali, said: “It was an amazing charity event and we like to thank everyone for attending.

"We had more than a hundred guests who joined us for an afternoon of laughter and stories with the brilliant David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd.

“It was a pleasure to help organise this event alongside John McGregor and Sarah Hunt to raise funds for charity.

“A huge thank you to Marc Pugh, Martin Fearon, and Peter Beardsley for their incredible support.

“And, of course, a big shout out to Accrington Stanley Football Club for the fantastic venue and service.”
