A RADIO 4 regular will take centre stage for the final musical recital of 2024 at a Blackburn church.

John Hosking, the Organist in Residence at Blackburn Cathedral, will perform at the town's St Silas Church on Saturday, December 7, from 11am.

His programme will include music by Andre Fleury, Bedard, Cochereau and others, and also Fantasia on two well-known Christmas Carols by John West.

Coffee will be served prior to the Preston New Road church recital at 10.15am with everyone welcome.

John is also Organ Advisor to the Diocese of St. Asaph and an organist for BBC Radio 4's Daily Service.

Before his Blackburn posting he was also musical director at Holy Trinity, Southport for four years and assistant director of music at St. Asaph Cathedral for 14 years.

The Royal College of Music graduate also works regularly with the Diocese of Manchester (HeartEdge) Choral Scholars.

He has more than 40 published works as a composer and will release a new CD of 'first recordings' from Blackburn Cathedral early next year with soprano Olivia Hunt on the Regent label.

John was also recently the organist for Radio 4's live Ascension Day celebration marking the 100th anniversary of religious broadcasting and in October accompanied the choir of Blackburn Cathedral for a live broadcast of Choral Evensong on BBC Radio 3.
