An Accrington apprentice is set to help revamp a Slovenian school.
Holly Duffy, a painting and decorating apprentice at Accrington & Rossendale College, has been chosen by the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) to represent the UK in a humanitarian project in Slovenia.
The project will see apprentices from across Europe come together for a one-day repaint of an elementary school in Dol pri Ljubljana.
Holly, who works at Spain Building and Maintenance, was selected for the project after being named the Senior Winner of the PDA’s Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year 2024 and receiving the Chief Executive’s Recognition and Achievement Award in 2023.
She said: "I'm very grateful and excited to have been chosen to be part of the Slovenia humanitarian repaint.
"This is an amazing opportunity for me to be able to meet new people in the trade.
"I hope to achieve more confidence and gain more knowledge as this will also be my first time abroad."
The 22nd International Traditional Humanitarian Painting Campaign, hosted by the Painting and Decorating Section at the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, will take place on November 29.
Neil Ogilvie, chief executive of the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA), said: "Holly will be joining apprentices from across Europe as part of a humanitarian project in Slovenia, thanks to the professionalism and skill she has shown in our competition event earlier this year.
"This is an excellent opportunity for people like Holly who are embarking on a career in colour to make connections with their peers."
